I hope this post finds you well. I know – fat chance what with the way the U.S. seems to be circling the drain. What about those elections, though, huh? Yeah, baby! Let’s keep up the momentum!
What’s Going On?
This year I actually got the Halloween decorations out … BEFORE Halloween! Major kudos to me! Plus, it was a mere week after the Spooky Season when I swapped the crows and candy out for our fall garlands and cottage-core pumpkins.
I’m on a roll!
The next big hurdle? Actually sending out Yule cards right after the Feast Day… Haven’t been too successful with that task the last couple of years.
What’s Cooking on the Laptop?
Not a lot quite yet. Most of my time has been fine-tuning this website which, if you’re catching this article there, means I’ve transferred my domain to the new digs.
I also need to collect my Patreon tales and transfer them here for my subscribers.
My goal is to at least have a short story to close out the year. Up until this minute, I hadn’t considered writing a Yule-centric story, but… who would you want to see celebrating the holidays?
Chained Destinies, D Jordan Redhawk
My latest novel - Drifter Simone searches for the promised land. Bounty hunter Z wants the woman responsible for her mother’s death to pay. When Simone and Z run into each other, they both find the answers they need and more.
The Bad News?
I spent far too long on a novel that isn't moving forward, at least not right now. Eclipse of Shadows sits in limbo after months of nothing…
It’s the end of the world and two strangers meet at a carnival as all hell breaks loose. Rorie and Chance must escape downtown Portland, Oregon without falling prey to the insanity…and the insane.
It’s gritty, dark and has an element of “soul mates." This tale has been in my head for a while, but the timing isn’t great. There’s enough doom and gloom as our society threatens to burn down around our ears. The last thing we need is a story about the end of the world.
Additionally, I had been posting the first draft on Patreon. When I reached the first kiss scene I started having doubts. I’m not sure about what’s legit as far as NSFW scenes there. Would the post get flagged? Removed? And who has ownership of the IP anyway? Me? Or Patreon?
After some extensive research, I didn’t find any solid answers to my questions. So I’ve decided to go this route – posting on my own site with a subscriber paywall – rather than on Patreon. Same concept, more control (and ownership!) on my part, less confusion for me.
What Grabbing My Attention?
I’ll close with the media I’m currently consuming.
Shows: The Black List on Netflix, The Institute on MGM+, YouTube…lots and lots of YouTube!
Movies: The Black Phone (black phone, black list…I’m sensing a theme), Weapons (loved the way the POV shifts in the storytelling!)
Tunage: Hip deep in 80s rock on iHeart.com
TBR List: Feel Good Productivity, Ali Abdaal; 107 Days, Kamala Harris; Discount Armageddon, Seanan McGuire
Oh… And doom scrolling on Substack, Reddit, Bluesky and Facebook.
