December Newsletter

December Update!

Welcome!

Here in Oregon we’re receiving the first of multiple “atmospheric river” storms. It’s absolutely pouring out there! Yeesh! Today would normally be my grocery/errand day, but I’m relying on delivery drivers for that… We don’t own a vehicle, and I’m not keen to use a snorkel to swim to the grocery store!

And warm! While the eastern half of the country is piled high in snow and ice, our temperature is in the mid-fifties. We just turned on our heat December 1st; now we’re opening the windows to cool off. It’s crazy!

The New Site is LIVE!

I’ve explained in a previous post about what the new design is all about. It’s kinda bold, kinda out there when compared to my previous sites over the years.

Jodie Foster said something about turning 60 that really struck me: “Everything changed. I was like, ‘Yeah, I don’t care. I’m no longer tortured by any of this. I don’t know why I seemed to care so much.'”

I noticed the same shift when I turned 60. And as I head into 65, I've decided to embrace it. Hence the bright colors and web design. I love it! I hope you do too.

Chained Destinies, D Jordan Redhawk

My latest novel - Drifter Simone searches for the promised land. Bounty hunter Z wants the woman responsible for her mother’s death to pay. When Simone and Z run into each other, they both find the answers they need and more.

Bella Books

Works in Progress

There are a couple of partial novels listed in the Work In Progress section, one of which accounts for the majority of my writing last year. At this point, neither will be completed unless my Muse strikes me upside the head with a pickaxe handle. We’ll see.

Kou Itten, begun in 2001-ish, was a stand-alone sequel to CyberEpic (a.k.a. Lichii Ba’cho.) The writing wanders a bit, and I got to the point that I couldn’t figure out what was next. Surprisingly, that’s my only incomplete novel from my early writing days.

Eclipse of Shadows is very current, but too on the nose for our current society. The primary storyline is two strangers meeting in the middle of a violent apocalypse. I like the story, the plot, the writing…but have reached an impasse. It might be a while before I return to this one.

I don’t have another novel in mind at this point. Most of my energy has been setting up this site. With that out of my way and a new writing schedule in my day-to-day program, we’ll see what happens next. I’ll keep you posted!

Other Interests

Here’s a rundown of what I’m perusing.

Shows: Plur1bus! O.M.G.! This is a fantastic show! I can’t watch enough YouTube videos about it!

Also, The Mighty Nein on Prime! I’ve been a Critical Role fan for years, and it’s been a hoot to see how Campaign 2 has been adapted for animation.

Movies: Not many movies last month. I rewatched Blast From the Past for the giggles.

The Thursday Murder Club was hilarious! I mean, c’mon! Helen Mirren as a badass? How can you not love THAT! The movie was entertaining enough to reserve the book at my library.

Tunage: While editing Kou Itten for posting here I listed to my Cyberpunk soundtrack, which means a lot of Crystal Method, Diary of Dreams and Depeche Mode.

TBR: My Libby app shows far too many holds at my library - SIX of them! Two psychology, two Dark Winds series, and two inspired by recent television shows.

  • Hunt, Gather, Parent, Michaeleen Doucleff
  • Sex at Dawn, Christopher Ryan, Cacilda Jetha
  • Cave of Bones, Anne Hillerman
  • The Tale Teller, Anne Hillerman
  • The Institute, Stephen King
  • The Thursday Murder Club, Richard Osman

Current reads: I completed Snowbound by Blake Crouch yesterday. Then started Discount Armageddon by Seanan McGuire. If I complete McGuire’s book, I’ll have reached my goal of 50 books this year! That shouldn’t be too difficult since I find McGuire’s books extremely readable!

Happy Reading!
